THE PROFILE

































Tupi is a first class municipality in the province of South Cotabato. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 61,843 people.Nestled at the foot of a dormant volcanoMount Matutum, Tupi is considered as the fruit, vegetable and flower basket of South Cotabato.



HISTORY

Tupi derived from the word "Tufi" whish was a vine chewed by native B'laan tribes who first inhabited the land. Tufi was abundant in the original forests and had a refreshing taste.

As it lies in the dormant foot of Mt. Matutum, Tupi's fertile soil of volcanic ash offers a great enticement to speculators and investors particularly in the field of agriculture.
In 1936 during the commonwealth government, President Manuel L. Quezon appointed Major General Paulino Santos as General Manager for the development of Koronadal and the vast land in the Allah Valley.


Settlers from Luzon and Visayas starting to arrive transforming the once large forest into a flourishing area of agriculture.

The Bario of Tupi was created into a municipality of Tupi by virtue of executive order 612 of President Elpidio Quirino on September 11, 1953. The first set of appointed officials were inducted on October 2 of that year.

Arts and Culture









Kasadyahan Festival, "Sagana Sayaw sa Kadalanan-Kasadyahan": Celebration featuring street dancing competition coined from Visayan word "Kasadya". It is a convergence of various ethnic and cultural dances featuring Tupi as the province's flower, fruit and vegetable basket and a town where various cultures abode. Held every September 11 in celebration of the town's foundation anniversary.


 
 


Linggo ng Matutum: A weeklong festivity every March 13–20 of each year in celebration of the declaration of Mt. Matutum as protected Landscape: highlighting "Amyak Maleh", a climb and plant mountaineering activities and the Mindanao wide "Amyak Maleh Mt Matutum Bike Challenge".








 Kariton Festival: Annual parade of animal-drawn carts (kariton) bedecked with vegetables, fruits and flowers. Held every October and is being sponsored by the barangay Poblacion.





























Ati-Atihan: A yearly festival of Barangay Crossing Rubber same with that of Kalibo, Aklan.






TRANSPORTATION



The Tupi Transport Terminal has its daily trip to General Santos City and Koronadal City 24 hours daily. The estimated time allotment from Tupi to General Santos City and vice versa is only 45~60 minutes without traffic.
From General Santos City, there are trips to Tupi, the PUVs are available at the mall terminals.


General Santos International Airport is 1 hour away from Tupi's town proper by using the newly constructed General Santos Diversion Road to avoid heavy traffic in General Santos City.

TUPI SOUTH COTABATO

South Cotabato now gradually known as the Land of the Dreamweavers is best known for its vast plantation of fruits and vegetables. The province owes its fertile soil to the volcanic waste that eroded from the orifice of the magnificent Mt. Matutum. One of the towns in the Province richly endowed with this natural resources is the town of Tupi.



Tupi is known as the fruit capital not only of South Cotabato but the whole of SoCCSKSarGen Region. It boasts of its vast pineapple plantations just located along the national highway with the imposing view of the majestic Mount Matutum dominating in the background. Aside from pineapple and other fruits, Tupi is also greatly known for its vast cut-flower and vegetables lantation.

Tupi Fruit Stands located along the National Highway. Tupi is considered the fruit bowl of the Province. Owing to the potential fruit stands are visible along the highways where tropical fruits are for sale. It is so accessible because it is located along the Maharlika Highway where buyers can easily park their vehicles.





Acmonan Hotspring is located at the foot of Mount Matutum. The Hot Springs and Waterfalls are just adjacent to each other.

Beautifully rising in Tupi, South Cotabato, a town famous for its pineapple plantations, is Mt. Matutum. Its characteristic irregular but imposing cone shape dominates the landscape from General Santos to Koronadal City. It is so grand in its rise that it literally beckons climbers passing by the road from GenSan to Koronadal to climb it. Rising to 2293 MASL, it is considered a active volcano.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Another Tourists Attraction that you may visit in Tupi:

 
 
Linan Hotspring, Waterfalls and Campsite located within the Matutum forest reserved area. The hot springs which emits sulfuric hot water is believed to be medicinal. The area is strictly being conserved by DENR to protect the remaining forest cover within the vicinity. It is declared part of the Protected Landscpe of Mt. Matutum under the NIPAS Law.



Filipino-Japanese and Memorial Shrine located at Norona Hillside constructed with the assistance of the Manzo Hango, a member of the Japanese Imperial Army assigned in Tupi during World War II.


Tablao, Linan Pilgrimage Site located in Linan, it is frequented by visitors particularly during the Holy Week.



Cave although no intensive exploration had been done, caves are present in Kablon, Linan, Miasong and Polonuling.
